For my slides I use photos I have taken, and crop them to size in my Serif  programme, creating a page of slides to print off onto a transparency.  However, if you are not familiar with computer software that can do this, don’t worry!  You can still create a slide in Word!

Instructions on how to get your photo the right size for the slide for computer novices

If you are not used to using image software, probably the easiest way for us to do this is to use Word.  Click on the file to the right and open it.  You will see there a box the size of a slide, and a random photo!  If you click on the box and drag it, you will see you can move it over the photo to see what section would look good in it.

To open your own photo, click on the Insert Tab, select Picture, then From File, and click on the picture you want to use.

When the picture appears on the page, right click on it and select Format Picture.  Select Layout, then select  Behind Text and click OK.  You can now move the slide square over your picture.  Is your picture too big?  Just click on it, and dots will appear around it.  Drag one of the corner dots in to make it smaller.

Now, for ease of use, I give you here another word document with two slide shapes in.  Do the directions above, inserting two photos in, and make your selections.  Rather than going into cropping images, it’s easiest to print out the two photos, and cut around the lines!

If you are having trouble moving the box over your photo, check that you have selected ‘behind text’ in Layout.

Preparing the Slide

Cut out your transparencies and place them between the slides.  Take your self-adhesive metal foil, and attach it to your slide.  I find this easier to do if I place the slide in the centre of the strip, and then wrap it around the sides.  This keeps the edges even.

It is important to create a seal all the way round the slides with the tape to prevent glue seeping between the layers later on.
